Week 6 Signature Assignment Paper: Culminating Argument

The culminating argument paper is a reordering of the first two papers with the addition of an abstract, introduction, and conclusion.

This paper should include a newly composed introductory section and a new final conclusion section that presents your discussion of (and argument for) the solution. Your argument, or rationale, for the solution that you propose is the focus of this paper.

Your paper must:

Be 15–20 pages in length

Title page (1 page)

Introduction (1–2 pages)

Reworked informative papers (10–15 pages)

Conclusion (1–2 pages)

References (1–2 pages)

Reference 12–15 scholarly, peer-reviewed resources (compiled by combining all of the references from your Perspective of Inquiry papers and any additional resources you use in this final paper.)

Follow all APA Style formatting guidelines.

Abstract
The paper talks about the Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs), which are infections
that patients develop while receiving healthcare. The paper begins by giving a proposal and the
problem statement. This section introduces the topic and gives the reasons as to why the
Healthcare-Associated Infections is such a huge niche that needs to be researched on. The project
also conducts a literature review where previous studies are evaluated concerning the topic. One
of the infections that the section critically looks into is pneumonia. The paper also looks at the
cultural and ethical perspectives that are associated with Healthcare-Associated Infections. From
a cultural perspective, the paper is able to evaluate some of the cultures that are affected by the
infections and some of the cultural traditions that affect their treatment. The paper lastly concludes
by stating that the HAIs are a major global menace that needs to be looked into keenly.

Introduction
Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are the type of infections that patients develop
while receiving healthcare. It worth noting HAIs develop within 48 hours after patients' admission.
Further, the project is based on a hypothesis suggesting widespread cases of HAIs results from
modern clinical approaches that rely on invasive therapies and inappropriate use of antimicrobial
treatments. The overall aim of the project is to uphold the culture and ethical practices that can
guide practitioners to achieve desired outcomes. As a result, creating awareness to healthcare
practitioners on potential factors that contribute to HAIs will significantly transform health culture
and ethics that ideal for the delivery of quality healthcare. Statistics obtained from reliable and
credible sources indicate out of 100 patients receiving treatment, seven from developed countries,
and ten from developing countries develop Healthcare-associated infections.
Furthermore, the project focus on identifying the cause of the health issue and suggests
best practices that will eliminate HAIs in Healthcare facilities. At the end of the study, the project
hopes to identify the leading causes of health-associated Infections. Also, the study will explore
precautions that can be used as preventive measures that are effective in curbing widespread cases
of HAIs in various healthcare facilities. More so, regarding issues of HAIs, the project will outline
the benefits of investing in creating awareness and preventive measures. The study will
recommend the best approaches to reduce cases of Healthcare-Associated Infections. As a result,
finding from the research will reveal benefits. Further analysis will reveal the current burden
associated with HAIs. Additionally, the research will discuss the implications of health conditions
developed during treatment, such as increased mortality, mortality, pain, and cost of extended
hospital stays. Aside from that, the Mathematical/ analytical perspective of Healthcare-Associated
infections aims to evaluate the economic effects of HAIs. Precisely, mathematical or analysis of

the HAIs will attempt to assess the total societal cost of Healthcare-Associated Infections and come
up with reliable and conclusive results.
Proposal and Problem Statement
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are those that patients acquire while being treated
for surgical or medical conditions. The good news is that these infections can be prevented. The
infections can be linked to procedures like surgery and devices like ventilators and catheters that
are used for medical procedures. HAIs are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally,
with at least one patient in every 25 patients hospitalized in the United States being affected by
HAIs (Collins, n.d.). The occurrence and complications that are undesirably caused by HAIs bring
about significant illnesses in patients, prolong the duration of hospital stay for patients, and require
additional therapeutic and diagnostic interventions. All these generate added costs to those that the
patient has already incurred due to the underlying disease. HAIs are considered an undesirable
outcome, and since most are preventable, they are usually an indicator of an adverse event, the
patient care quality, and an issue of patient safety.
The reason I chose to study this topic is that I have an extensive background working in a
Home-health setting. While there, I have established that improper health education on HAIs
negatively impacts the quality of care for patients. Consequently, this makes a negative impact on
the cost of treating these patients and prolonged hospitalization, which can also increase the risk
of morbidity and mortality. The goal of exploring this problem is to bring about change. The
accomplishment of investigating this problem is to help reduce the occurrences of HAIs and
therefore ensure that patients receive quality care. When caregivers, nurses as well as other
healthcare personnel are educated on the prevention of HAIs among patients, the outcome of
patient care will be useful, and the excess cost of healthcare will be significantly reduced
