Case Study
Mrs. White is a 75-year-old who lives in a particular community where adults have a
history of arthritis, heart disorders, bowel obstruction, and moderate levels of cognitive
impairment. In the recent past, she collapsed at her home and was rushed to my unit where I
conducted a post-open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of her left hip which had a fracture.
Four days after the operation she was still experiencing abdominal pains and she could only
clamp her nasogastric tube. It is the first time I am taking care of her. The surgeon had requested
me to conduct a computerized tomography (CT) scan of her abdomen to rule out the possibility
of having ileus. After that I prepared her for radiology but when I brought the carrier she refused
to go with me.
