The path-goal theory of leadership follows that the leader’s style of leadership and
behavior has a direct effect on the employees, the work environment, and how they achieve the
set goals and objectives. The path-goal theory suggests that the leader should be ready to give the
employees motivation, empowerment, and satisfaction in the jobs so they can work productively
towards the goals of the organization. The successful leader, according to the theory, is the one
who encourages, supports the employees and also compensates them well. Motivation from
leaders happens when the leader encourages the employees to work towards specific goals, even
without the orders or instructions from the leaders. Motivating the employees can be done in
several ways, for example, offering them attractive rewards on completion of the project,
recognizing and praising their efforts, and others. The employees will also be motivated by the
leader who knows what he wants to achieve with the organization and guides the workers
towards the desired path (Northouse, 2018).
According to the path-goal theory, the leader can have different leadership styles that
include directive leadership, supportive leadership, achievement-oriented leadership, and
