1) The Adoration of the Magi
The Adoration of the Magi is the title of the famous work of art, which is a circular
painting or in other words, a tondo (Ruda, 1975). The picture is done on a wooden panel by two
painters, namely Fra Angelico, who may have commenced the artwork, and also Fra Filippo
Lippi. The painting’s country of origin was Italy. The artwork was created in between the year
1440 to the year 1460, which was during the early Renaissance period. The painting is Christian
art and can be found inside the National Gallery of Arts, located in London. The golden framed
tondo shows numerous people queuing to adore Baby Jesus.
The queue begins at the painting’s upper right all the way around the stable and also the
white building’s back then proceeds on the painting’s left side where people enter under the
vertical curve or the arch. The Holy Family can be seen at the lower right of the picture, whereby
the Virgin Mary in a blue dress carries Baby Jesus on the lap. Saint Joseph can be seen standing
right next to Mary’s right side. There are three Magi or wise men leading the queue with one
Mugus kneeling in front of Jesus touching his foot.
There are various animals shown in the painting like cows, camels, one peacock, falcon,
and an ox. There is also a donkey, horses, and even a dog. The peacock represents immortality,
while the decayed white structure symbolizes the world's decay before Jesus was born. It is not
clear what the nude people in the picture express, but it is assumed that they suggest how open
and warm Christianity is to all types of individuals. The picture fits the Christian art category as
it indicates the birth of Jesus, which is in the Bible. I chose the artwork as it illustrates the
humble birth of Jesus. Its circular shape is also unique.

designed in the year 1842 by a famous artist whose name, is Thomas Cole, who was from the

the Romanticism period, and it is under the Christian art classification. Generally, Cole designed
The Voyage of Life in form of a paintings' series that represented a story of human life's four
phases. It is Christian storytelling by the use of landscapes, visually interpreting a man's journey
through four steps. The Voyage of Life: Childhood is the first phase where every essential story
aspect of the Voyage series is introduced. In the artwork, the baby is safely tucked away or
