Unit IV PowerPoint Presentation

Instructions

Imagine that you have been asked to present to a group of high school students about conservation strategies. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that includes the components listed below.

  • Slide 1: Include an introduction slide.
  • Slides 2–3: Explain how the field of conservation biology is important to human beings. Provide two examples to help illustrate this point.
  • Slides 4–5: Describe the relationship between conservation science and technology, and explain how technology aids conservation science. Provide one example to help illustrate this point.
  • Slides 6–7: Identify one difference between a scientific idea related to the nature of science. Present the opposing ideas for this particular concept. Support the differences you identified with research.
  • Slide 8: Explain how math is used for conservation problem-solving by showing calculations for the example below.
  • A country has a total biocapacity of 6.21 ha/person, a biocapacity of grazing land of 0.85 ha/person, and a biocapacity of forest land of 2.53 ha/person. Calculate the percentage of biocapacity from grazing and forest land.
  • Slide 9: Include a conclusion slide.
  • Slide 10: Provide a reference slide.

Your presentation must be a minimum of 10 slides in length. You must use at least one illustration, graphic, or image to enhance your presentation. Support your presentation with at least three scholarly sources from the CSU Online Library. Be sure to cite all sources using APA format.

Introduction
 Conservation biology is a field of science that involves the
development of appropriate scientific principles, laws and
techniques, and utilization of such principles, laws, and procedures
in developing scientific technologies for biodiversity maintenance
(Sanchez, 2018).
 This field has two vital characteristics.
 First, it is a crisis discipline, and the experimental techniques
advanced in conservation biology must be applied when need arise
before chanting the next cause of action.
 Secondly, it is holistic; it encompasses various disciplines in such as
genetics, ecology, physiology, and evolution.

Importance of conservation biology
 The danger of losing biological diversity is
accelerating all the time.
 Therefore, there is a need to conserve living
organisms.

 First, Conservation of biological diversity is important
as a source of natural products to pharmaceutical
industries and agricultural industries.
 Most of the drugs are derived from living organisms,
for example, penicillin from Penicillium fungi and
alkaloids that are derived from garlic gloves.

Importance of conservation biologycontinued
 In food security, enhancing biological diversity
ensures a continuous supply of raw materials in food
processing industries.
 Secondly, the conservation of biological diversity
reduces the extinction of species. Each species plays
an important role in its niche, and most of them
engage in a symbiotic relationship.
 This ensures the balancing of biotic and abiotic
factors in the ecosystem (Yu, Favre, Sui, Chen, Qi, &
Xie, 2019).

Relationship between conservation
science and technology
 Technology has evolved to be an ingenious tool in
solving problems that enable humans to thieve in
various areas, and conservation biology are one of
them.
 The use of technological devices enables researchers
to collect more and better biodiversity data and
improve the conservation of the ecosystem and the
managing of threats.

Relationship between conservation
science and technology- continued
 Technological tools are also used to enhance
conservation actions in natural ecosystems.
 This includes monitoring of illegal activities that
degrade the environments like deforestation, illegal
harvesting, and trafficking.

Conservation and the nature of
science
 Among the scientific ideas in the nature of science is
the premise that science cannot provide complete
answers to all questions.
 This is almost true since many si...
