Knowledge Management Analysis of a Manufacturing Organization
Knowledge is tactic, explicit and implicit acquired information. The organization has
an Executive Manager who is the Chief Operating Officer of the manufacturing
organization. The executive managers will bear the responsibility of selecting the
manufacturing procedures and strategy (Khan, & Ansari, 2012). Also the executive
manager will be ultimately responsible for the results of the set strategies. The
executive manager shall seek input and responses from the organization’s subordinates
when establishing a manufacturing strategy.
Production Manager

The production manager of the organization is the head of the production employees and
the supervisors in the manufacturing facility (Coughlan, & Coghlan, 2011). The production
manager shall report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, where he will get directives for
managing the manufacturing process. The production manager shall seek participation and
feedback from the production supervisors and production workers regarding the efficacy of the
manufacturing plan. The production manager will report the successes and failures of the
programmed manufacturing plans to the CEO.

Production Line Overseers/Supervisors

Production line supervisors will provide the link between the production employees and
the production manager (Buckley, & Jakovljevic, 2013). Even though the production manager is
accountable for the entire production facility, the production line supervisor will bear the
responsibility in the production line. A production line supervisor shall be accountable for

multiple production lines within a specified production line. The production manager shall relay
the production strategy to the production line supervisors who will report back to him.

Production Employees
The production employee is most subordinate member of staff in the production
organizational chart. Nevertheless, the production employee plays a significant role in the
manufacturing strategy established by the executive management (Abou-Zeid, 2008). The
production employee, when properly trained and equipped with appropriate tools of service
necessary in effective accomplishment of given tasks could result into successful operation of the
production plant in conformity with the manufacturing strategy. Production employees relay
information to the production line overseers.
Scope of Operation
The production and operations management converts inputs into outputs by exploiting
available physical resources to produce the desired products and utilities to consumers besides
conforming to the set organizational objectives (Al-Shammari, 2011). The operations highlighted
under the operations management include; facilities location, product design, process design,
production control, quality control, materials management, and maintenance management.
Facilities location for operations entails commitment to the geographical location factors
that impact the manufacturing organization (Al-Shammari, 2009). Location of facilities deals
with the setup of operations in the organization. Product design is concerned with the process of
converting ideas into realism. The organization designs, develops and introduces new products to
facilitate survival in the market. Product development seeks to satisfy the needs of consumers by
designing technical specifications and particular features into the products.

Process design is involved in the decision making of the general process routes required
in the production line of converting raw materials into finished products. The decisions entail
process selection, technology choice, facilities layout and overall process flow analysis.
