Innovation and Creativity in the Workplace
Introduction
Creativity and innovation at the workplace can broadly be described as the processes,
outcomes of attempts, and outcomes that develop and introduced new and better ways of
working on things. The creative phase in the process refers to the generation of ideas, while the
innovation phases are the stage that follows that involves implementation of plans with the target
being to come up with procedures, products, and practices (Anderson, Potočnik & Zhou, 2014).
Creativity and innovation happen in various levels that can be on the individual, team, the
organization or in more than of those levels when combined (Anderson, Potočnik & Zhou,
2014). Creativity is defined as the act of generating useful and novel ideas, while innovation has
been seen as the initial stage in creative ideas production followed by implementation.
Innovation is described as serving as a dynamic capability that comes out of an organization's
ability to have great flexibility. Innovation is also described as the implementation of useful as
well as novel ideas within the organization, as well as the use of the right administrative and
technical processes which assist entities in developing a business, enter a new market, and
successfully deliver services or products (Wang & Tsai, 2014).
Synthesis of Different Conditions and Qualities that Guide Dynamics of Organization
Giving Rise to Innovation and Creativity
Research has demonstrated that a healthy and entrenched culture is an essential factor
that allows for sustainable innovation. An influential culture, however, has been seen to a
reduced ability of innovation when the culture inspires uniformity that in turn, controls the
individual creativity within the organization. Different levels of analysis have been suggested in
the study and application of techniques, and they include individual, work team, multi-level, and

organization-wide level. On the individual levels, the personal factors that result in creativity are
said to include expertise, creative skills, and innovative motivation. When it comes to expertise,
it can be viewed as proficiency, knowledge, and unique talents within the work domain. Intrinsic
motivation is described as the personal sense of curiosity, work engagement, and the enjoyment
of work (Wang & Tsai, 2014). On the other hand, creativity skills have their foundation on the
cognitive tendency of adopting newer perspectives, exploring new techniques, and the attempt of
newer styles of working (Wang & Tsai, 2014).
Personal knowledge, skills, as well as cognitive possibilities, are considered important
factors that affect the creative outcome of the individuals. Employees that have the right
expertise are better able to think about all the factors of complex problems and be able to
perform essential tasks. The team members that have creative skills, however, can effectively use
different strategies and direct their efforts to more creative work styles. The team members that
also have a high level of intrinsic motivation would tend to focus more of their efforts in getting
the right skills and knowledge. That would be required in their primary domain and also apply
new knowledge and skills from various fields (Wang & Tsai, 2014).
Another critical factor is the encouragement of the leaders by offering support that fosters
an environment of creativity. It plays a vital role in the condition and the creative background
and encouraging the employees to be creative. It is therefore used to explore the impact that
behaviour can have in empowering leaders in nurturing sustainable innovation performance
(Cheng et al. 2019). From the decision making perspective, many ideas and arrangements can be
harnessed by developing a creative environment within the workplace. Such an environment
allows people to think on their feet. When the management treats the team as an original part of
the entire team, the team feels encouraged to think on their feet which translates to better

productivity. When the team is treated like a creative and vital part of the workplace, a lot can be
achieved (Olszak & Kisielnicki, 2016). Creativity can be nurtured by developing ideas and
