Description

The animal I chose is Panda! (Focus on adaptation)

1. Write a 6-9 double-spaced, typed research paper on the various adaptations that animals evolve for survival in particular habitats. These adaptations can include behavioral and physiological adaptations.

Introduction

- Describe background for the animal that you have chosen. This background should include classification of the organism and also a description of the habitat in which it lives. Describe the variables of the habitat in which the organism must adapt to for survival. Give brief description of the niche that your organism fills in its habitat.

Body

-Describe the various ways, either physiological or behavioral in which the organism is adapted for its environment. How do each of the various adaptation increase the survival of the organism. If it is a physiological adaptation how does it differ from the “normal”. You should than also include the description of the role that it plays in its environment, expand as to what would happen if the organism were to go extinct from the habitat. How would the environment change? Which organisms would be impacted?

Conclusions

-Briefly summarize what you have discussed above. Expand on the importance that each animal has to its ecosystem and how this impacts human populations.

References

-A minimum of 4 reputable citations (these should not be Wikipedia, facts on file etc.) (USE GOOGLE SCHOLARS)

-You may use books, journals, magazines, and any website ending in .edu, .gov, or.org.

-However, any info taken from a website must have an author. If no author is given, then it is an inappropriate source for a college paper. Information from sources with no author will not count toward your points in the project.

Citations:

-Try to avoid websites whenever possible. If you use a website use one that is authored. Focus on using books and primary literature.

-When citing the work in the text, you should put the author’s last name and the year of the publication in parentheses.

SURVIVAL ADAPTATIONS OF GIANT PANDAS
Survival adaptations of pandas
Introduction
All animals have features that help them adapt and survive in various ecological
systems. An organism`s ecosystem refers to its natural habitat, where it derives its means of
survival, including food, water, and shelter from the weather, as well as a place to rear its
young ones. It is also through adaptation that organisms can avoid predators as well as keep up
with competition from other species sharing the same food and space. Adaptations are physical
or behavioral changes that occur to enable animals or organisms to survive in their respective
ecological niches (Hull et al., 2016). An adaptation is a behavioral or physical characteristic that
enables each organism to live in its unique ecosystem. Failure to adapt to a given environment
results in reduced survival and can lead to extinction.
Panda, also known as panda bear or giant panda, is a bearlike mammal native to six
cold, snowy, and rainy mountain ranges located in south-central China. The giant panda is u
carnivore (order Carnivora) in the bear family, Ursidae. Though taxonomy places giant pandas
under the order Carnivora, they rely on a herbivorous diet. Its habitat is predominantly made
up of conifer and bamboo forests. It is the ideal habitat for giant pandas because 99 percent of
their diet consists of bamboo, while the one percent may consist of other foods such as honey,
eggs, fish, and yams (Wei, Wang & Wu, 2015). The aim of the paper is analyzing adaptations of
pandas to their environment, adaptation benefits, and the impact on bamboo ecosystems. The
terms “giant panda” and “panda” will be used concurrently.
Physiological and structural adaptations

A carnivorous digestive system
Even though giant pandas` diet is scientifically identifiable with herbivorous, the design
of its digestive system points to carnivores as opposed to the former, making the animal an
evolutionary paradox. A study from the Current Biology journal (Nei et al., 2015) indicates that
the nutritional profile of giant pandas is more inclined to wolves and cats as opposed to
herbivores. Bamboo has higher le...
