Additionally, there are public meals at the temples where it is important for one to be if one wants to participate in city politics or in order to keep up on business dealings. Finally, there are situations where one does not know where the meat comes from. As new converts to Christianity—or the part of the Jewish tradition that follows Jesus—these people want to know what to do. Some in the community contend that since there is only one God, none of these “sacrifices” count, so there is no harm in eating. Others say that it’s wrong to eat such meat because it seems like one is acknowledging another god. How would you respond? One major dispute in the early church was about circumcision. In the Acts of Apostles,
circumcision had already taken a new form. The apostles were no longer concerned with bodily
circumcises but that of the heart in faith. Paul in the Galatians addresses the necessity for
circumcision. There was a controversy on whether to ignore the compulsory Jewish traditions for
Christians. A gentile who was uncircumcised could not enter the church before but in this case,
they would get their way.
The resolution was that God would judge the gentiles. They believed that God had
opened the door for the Gentiles through Jesus Christ. The converts according to Apostolic
Council did not have to undergo circumcision. Such doctrinal dispute...
