    • Encounter stage: Individuals discover how well their expectations match realities within the organization. Where differences exist, socialization occurs to imbue the employee with the organization’s standards.

Indicators that employees require additional training include a reduction in job productivity,
failure to accomplish various tasks, and failure to fulfill the goals of the company. Moreover, some
employees can demonstrate a lack of the skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to accomplish
specific tasks. These indicators fall into two broad categories of training results and performancebased outcomes. Training outcomes would indicate whether employees benefited from a previous
training exercise. Employees who do not contribute towards the goals of a company indicate a lack
of understanding of organizational mission and vision. Moreover, employees who fail to meet
deadlines regularly would indicate the need for managerial input. A manager can use Kirkpatrick's
