The Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest Bowl) is a government investment that is
situated at the heart of the Olympic Green Village, Chaoyang District. The constructors began
their work in December 2003, only to halt the project in July 2004 to allow for the amendment of
the design. After much consultation among various stakeholders, such as the government,
contractors, and the Chinese people, a new model was agreed upon, hence allowing for the
resume of the building of the stadium in December 2004. All the work would be complete in
2008, ready for the Olympic games scheduled for the same year at the newly constructed venue.
After the Olympic events, the stadium became a significant tourist attraction in Beijing.
Currently, Beijing National Stadium acts as a Centre for global and local sports, as well as other
entertainment events in the city (Rogers, Yoon & Malek, 2008). In fact, with the 2022 Winter
Olympic Games expected to take place in this stadium, the tourism and other associated
industries will grow, creating employment opportunities to the people, increasing their income,
and leading to the increased economic growth of the country.
The capacity of this Stadium is approximately 3,000,000 m3, making it one of the largest
