Instructions: - For this assignment groups will identify a technology or technological process used in the healthcare setting that lends itself to the S.T.E.E.E.P principles - Describe one negative impact/implication this technology or process has on nursing practice. - Develop an evidence-based solution to reducing this negative impact. - Explain why you have chosen this technology or process. - You may cite no more than 1 credible source that must be precisely listed in APA style on your reference page, no older than 5 years. BRIEFLY answer the following questions: I. What S.T.E.E.E.P principle(s) does the technology or process support most? II. What is one (1) negative impact/implication this technology or process has on nursing practice. III. How could this negative impact be reduced? 3. Sherpath: • . GROUP: ________________________________________
1. Define your question using PICO BY IDENTIFYING Problem, Intervention, Comparison Group
and Outcomes:
a. Your question should be used to help establish your search strategy.
Patient/Problem: Pain management
Intervention: Medication and alternative medicine practices such as acupuncture and
massage among others.
Comparison: Drawing a relationship between alternative pain management practices and
the use of medicated pain relievers.
Outcome: Medicated pain relievers work best for chronic and acute pain, while alternative
medicine works best for low to moderate pain-relieving efforts.
Write out your question: When should a patient choose physician-medicated or alternative
medicine pain management strategies?
2. Type of Question/problem: Prognosis
3. Type of study (Publication Type) to include in the search:
1. Systematic Review
2. Case series or Case Report

COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Abstract
This research paper is a meta-analysis of literature seeking to identify the relationship
between different models of pain management and their most effective applications in pain
management. Through a qualitative analysis of literature from scholarly sources, the source looks
into research reports, systematic reviews, and editorials by experts in the field of pain
management. It assesses the alternative and analgesic models of pain management. The research
found out that marijuana and opioid analgesics are the strongest painkillers recommended for
acute pain, but have many and adverse side effects in most cases. It also suggests that noninvasive alternative pain management models should be used for both mild pain and acute and
chronic pain management, but with acute pain, they should be used alongside other analgesics or
marijuana. The study suggests better developments of opioid analgesia and marijuana for painrelieving to reduce side effects to the end-users which can enhance the management of pain in
acute and chronic cases.

COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Introduction
Pain is a biopsychosocial concern that calls for interdisciplinary management strategies
(Brennan, Carr, & Cousins, 2007). Pain might require the efforts of a qualified medical
physician, a psychological social worker, a behavioral social worker, and a physical therapist
among other disciplines. Pain also varies in intensity and duration. Acute pain is a sharp pain. If
acute pain is felt over a lengthy period of time, it is known as acute pain. Low to mild pain is
bearable pain caused by minor injuries. Any type of pain indicates an abnormal working of a part
or several parts of the body (Brennan, Carr, & Cousins, 2007). Pain management models also
defer. Generally, they can be divided into supplementary or alternative pain management
strategies, but some scholars see need to classify them into invasive and non-invasive pain
management practices. Given the need for patient autonomy in the contemporary world, the
patient can decide between many options of pain management at their disposal, depending on
their preference and their condition (Zhao, Yang, Wang, Zhang, & An, 2019). A medical
practitioner, however, should offer the patient some education on pain management practices.
This research paper is a meta-analysis of literature seeking to identify the relationship between
different models of pain management and their most effective applications in pain management.
