Green certification refers to the awarding of green certificate to a business enterprise. The
green certificate on the other hand refers to the tradable commodity in the United States that
proves that in a given company, certain electricity amount is generated through the use of
renewable energy sources. One certificate typically represents the generation of 1 Megawatthour
of electricity generated (Protess, 2011).
Normally, the sources considered as renewable include wind, solar, geothermal, biomass
and wave energy. The green certificate usually represents the environmental value that the
renewable energy generated brings.
