My view of what a patient is changed and expanded in that, henceforth, I consider a
patient is a partner, a stakeholder, and a decision-maker. I consider a patient as a partner in
that he has a role to play in the delivery of healthcare. This role consists of following the
instructions given by the nurse including following the treatments and use the knowledge and
education provided by the nurse in his life and choices (Bickley, 2017). This makes that I now
consider patients as partners. Indeed, if they do not do their parts or navigate against the
current, the delivery of healthcare will not be effective and the outcomes expected by the
hospital and the patient himself will not be reached.
Secondly, I consider the patients as stakeholders because the delivery of healthcare
cannot take place without them. A stakeholder is an individual or an entity that is concerned
with the process and outcomes of a specific endeavor (Doekhie et al., 2018). While most
nurses consider that the main concern of a patient is to recover, I believe that the expectations
of the patients go beyond this point. More specifically, any patient expects to receive the best
quality of healthcare ever delivered in addition to his recovery (Doekhie et al., 2018).
