There have always been debates as to whether social work is a profession. In the article,
“Is Social Work A Profession?” Abraham Flexner provides clear arguments as to why social
work is a profession. Flexner argues that for one to be considered a professional, he or she must
be fully dedicated to an activity (Flexner, 1915). To this extent, social work is a profession
because it demands dedication, empathy in various activities that characterize social work and to
