Improving Corrections Facilities
Diversion programs are designed to help first-time offenders prevent their cases from going to
trial. This makes sure that they do not have a criminal record or even avoid serving time in
prison. In Georgia, there are a number of Diversion programs. The concept for each diversion
program is the same with the difference being in the sentencing. Each larger county or city tend
to have their own alternatives for sentencing. Some of the diversion programs are the Cobb
County Georgia pretrial diversion and The Fulton County pretrial diversion. Depending on the
crime one might be required to perform community service, submit to random drug tests, paying
fines, or drug treatment. Individuals that can apply are those that face misdemeanour or felony
charges. Most of the felony charges that qualify are those that involve first-time possession of
drugs. In order to qualify one needs to have no prior criminal record and be at least 17 years old.
Some of the cases that easily qualify for the programs include shoplifting, simple assault,
disorderly conduct, and domestic violence.
