The driving force to shaping a nation is media and is also influential in affecting sexuality of teens. The media does not reveal the dangers behind sexual behavior, it actually portrays sex as a commodity. Teens tune to some portions of media which include music, movies and video games which portray sex and risky behaviors. The media has positive effects in portraying sexuality. News casts show the prevalence of sexuality. Various topics covered most recent include risks connected with unprotected sex like HIV, teen pregnancy and effects that alcohol has on making inhibitions lower. The problem is that when the media covers this topics they do them in places where teens are not present and therefore the message is not getting across, unfortunately the teens learn the dangers of the behaviors through experience, either through the loss of a friend or themselves. Ratings and sales are behind the saying that sex sells and as a consumer, parents through purchases and through control of their children purchases, have an influence on telling the message to the marketers on what is accepted or not accepted for sale to our children. Here is where parents should take responsibility of stepping in and educating where the society is failing at. As a parent you should not relax and hope that other people will teach your children what they need to know about sex and safe practices about sex.
