ROMEO AND JULIET PLAY BY SHAKESPEARE
In the play of Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare has being able to portray the theme
of love throughout the entire play. Through the plot and more so the use of characters,
Shakespeare was able to portray the theme of love that dominates the entire play. In the first
scene, Romeo expounds on the bitterness and the pain associated with love. The concept of love
seems to change throughout the play through the Romeo character who from the beginning of the
play is bitter because he thinks and believes that Juliet doesn’t love him (Shakespeare, 2003). He
uses phrases such as “O brawling love, o loving hate” that are used to reveal that he is very
confused and believes that Rosalia who is madly in love with doesn’t return his feelings. At this
stage, the puppy love is demonstrated in the sense that only Romeo is aware of his love for Juliet.
