Introduction
The phrase ‘serial killer’ is not only fearful but also painful, especially to the victims.
Serial killers commit repetitive horrific acts related to violence. The evaluation of their strange
actions indicates that the majority of serial killers encounter exceptional developmental issues.
Most importantly, it is the relationship with one’s mother at infancy that contributes to the
actions of most serial killers. Edmund Kemper, Henry Lee Lucas, Ed Gein, and Adam Lanza
were serial killers whose extreme attachment with their mothers resulted in odd behaviors in
their teenage years and adulthood.
Edmund Kemper
Edmund Kemper murdered young women in Santa Cruz, California area along with a
number of his family members. He also murdered his grandparents at the age of 15 in what
appeared to satisfy his curiosity about what it feels to kill. Kemper was born in 1948, a middle
child of Carnell Kemper and E.E in Burbank, California. In 1957, his parent’s divorce forced
him to stay with his mother and two sisters in Montana. Since his mother was an alcoholic,
Kemper had strenuous relationships as the mother was not only critical of him but also extended
the blame for her problems to him (Time Life, 2015). Kemper was forced to live in the basement
at the age of ten and could not associate with his sisters for fear that he could harm them. As a
result of his mother’s alcoholic and strict behavior, Kemper began to display wayward behavior
as he adopted a dark fantasy life with intentions to kill his mother. It all commenced with
chopping off heads of dolls and forcing his sisters to play the ‘gas chamber’ game that required
blindfolding...
