what are some of the example of judicial activism that illustrates that the Supreme Courts should rely on this philosopy?

Courts should not take part in judicial activism.  Doing so really oversteps their role as the judicial branch of government and infringes upon the legislative branch's role.  This seems to be happening more and more in our current government (ex., executive branch effectively usurping the legislative branch's role through executive order, judicial branch taking part in judicial activism)...couple that with the legislative branch simply not following the constitution and it's no wonder our government (and economy) are such a mess.
