This paper is about a legislative critique on two significant sections of American
legislation that is SAFE Port Act of 2006 and the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002.
The two legislations were brought forward due to the 9/11 terrific act. The incident involved
terrorist flying passenger planes into the Pentagon building in Washington DC and the World
Trade Center in New York, as well as an intention to fly the third plane in the hub of democracy
in the WHITE House. SAFE Port Act was initially introduced on 14th March 2006 and was
signed into law by the U.S. President on 13th October 2006. On the other hand, the Maritime
Transportation Security Act was amended on 25th November 2002 with an intention to rectify the
Merchant marine Act of 1936, as well as to develop a program to guarantee improved security
across all United States seaports.
MTSA was implemented in response to the dreadful attacks of 9/11 and demonstrate a
great stride in the maritime guideline in the U.S.A. Though congress had beforehand passed laws
monitoring the merchant marine sector, U.S. shipping had traditionally been spared the strict
supervisory administration that had one time affected trucking, airline and railroad sectors.
Owing to the attacks on the World Trade Center, the nation, and the government saw it fit to fix
the security structure for the nation’s maritime shipping sector (Haveman et al., 2005). The
ultimate outcome was a list of new requirements and policies placed on individuals who operate
