Over the course of history, key events have helped to shape the hospital system in the United States. Evaluate the impact of one of the following—the development of the modern health insurance industry, Medicare and Medicaid, or the Hill-Burton Act of 1946—on the development of the hospital system.


How might our hospital system be different today had history been different? 


What influence did recent healthcare reform efforts (Affordable Care Act) have on the current U.S. healthcare system?

The government introduced the Medicare and Medicaid plan in 1964 and in this plan the
private sector still had to pay the 75% of the cost incurred. Individuals and companies started
paying half of the cost and the government the rest in the year 1995 (Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services, 2010). The cost of health care rose rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s and this
forced the insurance plans to change from fee-for service to a better plan managed care plans and
due to this change most of the Americans changed to the cheaper plan. President Bush in the
1993, presented to the congress a plan that would ensure that the Americans have a health plan
though it faced a lot of opposition in the congress though in 1996 the congress passed the Mental
Parity Act that made employers offer psychiatric services if they needed it( Office of the Surgeon
General 2005). The Portability and Accountability act that ensured employees maintained their
