Communication is a key element in our day to day lives. Language helps us communicate
efficiently, it is, therefore, important for a child to learn how to speak. The first language that one
learns as a child is their mother tongue. As the children grow, they can learn more languages that
are key in their growth. As a child, learning a new language was a source of joy. I feel like the
greatest memories I had were created when learning a new language.

The earliest memory I have of learning my mother language dates back to the childhood games
that we played. These games helped us interact freely as kids, this means that we helped each other
learn our mother tongue. My friends would try out new words that they had heard and together we
would practice reciting them in our childhood plays. Going to school presented us with the
opportunity of learning how to read in our mother tongue.

Additionally, the school introduced new languages that we were supposed to learn. This proved
to be challenging but fun. We could not wait to learn these new languages. We were all excited at
the thought of learning how to read in both our mother tongues and another foreign language. I
vividly recall the first day that I joined the school, though my childish brain could not register it, I
had begun a new journey of discovery. At schools, we were each presented with a sketchbook that
contained the alphabetical order with a pictorial illustration.

Books were a new experience for us and they blew our minds away. This is my earliest memory
of learning a new language. Before progressing to learning other languages, one had to pass a test
