Introduction
Throughout the historical development of the nursing fraternity, there have been many
technological developments that have been recorded, especially in the 20th century. Since the
establishment of the first nursing school in London by Florence Nightingale, health care was
provided or through primitive means due to little or no resources within the health care facilities
or homes. Towards the beginning of the 19th modern technology in nursing had begun spreading
within many communities. As such, the arrival of the 20th century in the nursing field was
marked by significant changes worldwide. A wide range of technical inputs that were registered
in nursing during this century is from genetics, robotics, 3-D printing and genomics. All these
developments have been channeled towards improving the diagnosis and treatment of everemerging diseases and other related health complications. Thus, the periscope of this paper will
be to examine the technological developments that emerged during the 20th century and how
applicable they are today.
