Discussion 4 Let's use this week's discussion to begin brainstorming and sharing ideas about the problem/issue/opportunity for which you'll explore. If you haven't already, please read through the Module 4 Overview, which discusses Phase II: Writing in Action. What issues, problems, and/or opportunities are you thinking about? Why are these important to your profession? Who (i.e. stakeholders) are interested or invested in the these issues, problems, opportunities? What questions or concerns do you have at this point? What future concerns might you have? Please respond to at least two classmates. Your responses to classmates should be approximately 150 words each. My Discussion: Instagram has been undertaking a study by hiding the number of likes a post gets in an attempt to help address the social ills that have been associated with social media. There have been mental conditions associated with social media use, including addiction, low self-esteem and in extreme cases, suicide. The focus is on whether the latest intervention by technological companies, especially social media sites, will offer a long-term solution to these problems. Social media is an important domain to social work because of its popularity, which means that the social work profession should be savvy on the dynamics of human existence. Social work is a helping profession and this means that the field should have knowledge on issues affecting clients in their daily lives. The latest step by technology companies reflects a growing trend among social media users to developmental conditions. What drives such behavior? The new opportunity for social work is reinforcing the new steps being undertaken by social media companies to arrest the situation. The social media likes is a disturbing and broad aspect. The evaluation is based on having an objective view on the viability of the actions to hide the number of likes, and whether it shall be effective in coming to a conclusive paradigm on the manifest effects of social media. A proposal would seek to understand how social media likes, and their hiding, can be utilized for longevity and preservation of life. Can it be used to ensure that there is a social change, both in behavior and latent outcomes? These are some of the key aspects that the proposal will try to highlight and give a solution. Classmate 1 Discussion: My immediate thought about issues within my profession was drama. Drama is a negatively important concern to my profession for the main reason of slowing processes down. In regard to being a High School Dance Team Coach, you throw 13 high-school girls ages 14-18 and trust me when I tell you; it is NOTHING but drama. Invested into this issue are quite a few stakeholders such as; the athletes, the parents of the athletes, coaches, as well as Lakeview High School administrators who can enforce disciplinary action. For the athletes, drama among them creates a poor attitude during any Dance Team related events such as; practice, competitions, game day, ect. A poor attitude stretches further than just being upset, it also makes their worth ethnic go down, performance aspects, attentiveness, and disrespectfulness to all other stakeholders. The end results of drama is an unfortunately outcome for how events went, leaving behind an overall lessthan feeling about Dance Team. For parents, it creates a rivalry to defend their children; in some cases they act worse than their literal children. When parents influence a poor attitude and encourage drama, it only spreads the issue rather than helping with a solution. For coaches, it creates an increasingly hard atmosphere to instruct in and maintain a positive environment for my dancers to grow as humans and athletes. I do not know how to go about resolving the drama situation, trust me I have tried implementing disciplinary actions but nothing works. My question to you, does anyone have any advice on how to diffuse this issue? My main concerns of this issue is my stakeholders bailing on the rest of the team, leaving nothing for my profession. Respond (150 words): Classmate 2 Discussion: An issue that I am considering talking about is the issue of false advertisement. In today's society, it can be hard to determine what is true and what is fake. With the development of technology, anything can be posted so quickly and can travel instantly. If a company were to post false advertisements, that ad can travel instantly. Even if it gets taken down, there could be someone out there who took a screenshot of it or even just the travel of mouth about what someone read/saw. The issue of false advertisement is very important to the field of marketing is because one of the big parts of marketing is how to get your product to sell. However, if they create false advertisement it will cause the company to look bad and consumers may not be so interested in going back to the company if this was an issue before. Therefore, the biggest concern with false advertisement for consumers is the reliability of the company if they have been caught before. There are many people that would be invested in an issue such as false advertisement. For consumers, the biggest concern that they have as mentioned earlier is the lack of reliability they would have with a company. Furthermore, this would push the concern of the reliability of the company onto the stockholders. If there are no consumers that are spending their money on the company's products then why are they still want to support that company. The issue of false advertisement will cause a domino effect on everyone involved in the company and is an issue that needs to be addressed. Respond (150 words):
