Question 1
The economic systems and government systems in the United States are often confused,
primarily because of the close relationship that politics and economy have with each other.
Politics has influence over the economy and vice-versa. It is therefore almost possible to state
that a government that has a given kind of government system to has a similar kind of economic
system. For example, most democratic governments have capitalist economic systems and
communist governments have socialist economic systems. In the United States therefore, people
often confuse when talking about either the government system or the economic system by
mentioning the words democratic and capitalist interchangeably.

Adam Smith. Adam Smith was the idea of a free market, where he pointed out that markets
could self-regulate themselves through the principle of supply and demand which includes
competition. Another philosopher was David Ricardo also supported free trade, explaining that
the propagation of individual of individual self-interest (capitalism), works for the greater good
of the society.
Capitalism and democracy is a natural fit with one another. This is because the principles
that make up both of them are primarily based on the concepts of free will, where the decision is
left to the people for the case of democracy and supply and demand for the case of capitalism.
An alternate economic system is the communist economic system. This model cannot
function alongside a democratic system of government mainly because of the colliding interests
that they propagate. While democracy is meant to put power in the hands of individual citizens,
the communist economic system gives the government the power to control almost every
