Description
The first step of the evidence-based practice process is to evaluate a nursing practice environment to identify a nursing problem in the clinical area. When a nursing problem is discovered, the nurse researcher develops a clinical guiding question to address that nursing practice problem.
create a clinical guiding question know as a PICOT question. The PICOT question must be relevant to a nursing practice problem. To support your PICOT question, identify six supporting peer-revised research articles, as indicated below.
Use the "Literature Evaluation Table" to complete this task
- Select a nursing practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the patient population and identify a clinical problem or issue that arises from the patient population. In 200–250 words, provide a summary of the clinical issue.
- Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT question in your selected nursing practice problem area of interest. The PICOT question should be applicable to your proposed capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).
- The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project.
- Conduct a literature search to locate six research articles focused on your selected nursing practice problem of interest. This literature search should include three quantitative and three qualitative peer-reviewed research articles to support your nursing practice problem.

Summary of Clinical Issue (200-250 words): Hypertension lists as one of the nursing problems that affect the normal living of
an individual. Hypertension refers to a long-term condition where the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently high. In most cases,
referred to as high blood pressure and risks the life of the patient as it can be prone to other heart diseases. Some of the symptoms of
hypertension are headache, fever, and shortness in a breath but most patients do not have any symptoms until the condition gets to lifethreatening levels.
The two types of hypertension are primary and secondary depending on the cause among adults. Primary hypertension is common
among adults and is caused by unidentifiable factors. Secondary hypertension is caused by underlying factors such as kidney failure and
diabetes. Medical statistics show that adults especially men above the age of 40 falls under a higher risk of suffering from hypertension.
Medically, the condition is termed as a lifestyle disease because it requires management based on daily activities. Some of the
recommended lifestyle management activities are exercise and a balanced diet. Clinical management of hypertension is applicable under
certain circumstances especially that cause cardiac diseases. Hypertension as a medical problem calls for further research to define a
specific treatment approach to replace the management guidelines.

PICOT Question: For adults between above the age of 40 suffering from hypertension and with other recurring medical conditions (P),
will regular exercise and managed diet (I), compared to medication dependent patients (C), stand a chance of reducing the risk of
suffering heart diseases(O) in eight (8) months of recovery (T).
