In order to complete this assignment, open the Assignment 1 tab in Course Information tab, and
select one of the two scenario options. This business scenario will apply for your staffing plan in
both Week 6 and Week 10.
Note: You may create and / or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of
these assignments. Use this Worksheet outline to write your notes or to paste relevant
points/facts from your references. Be sure to add the appropriate citation for all of your notes
and any copied information. Conduct your research of the main topics (see bold type below) and
extract key topics, ideas, facts to support the development of your plan. Place your notes below
each section and include the citation with each note. Finally, arrange your notes in a logical,
supporting order. When you have completed your research, you can simply use your notes to
write out your plan. Whenever you use information from your notes, you will already have the
appropriate citation available. Rather than copying and pasting, use the main concepts of your
research and then paraphrase those concepts in your own words based on how those principles
will apply to your specific business scenario.
Using a scenario from Assignment 1, write a six to seven (4-5) page paper in which you:
1) Identify two (2) types of staffing models that could apply to your chosen scenario and
determine which model would be best suited for efficiency, productivity, and
possible future growth. Examine the significant effect of each identified staffing model on
processes that may be occurring within the organization (e.g., outsourcing, contingent
workers, consulting firms, etc.).
i) Staffing Models (write one or two paragraphs describing staffing model options for
your business; research possible staffing models).
ii) Model One (describe the first model, which you feel is a viable option for your
specific business and explain why this is a possible option. How will this model
increase efficiency, productivity, and growth in your business?
iii) Model Two (describe the second model, which you feel is a viable option for your
specific business and explain why you feel this is the best option.) How will this
model increase efficiency, productivity, and growth in your business?
2) Predict the major potential legal issues that you may encounter when establishing equal
employment opportunities and diversity within the workplace while still aiming to acquire
employees with the needed certifications and credentials. Next, explain the method of
achieving transparency within your staffing model. Justify your response.

Scenario 1
You are a Human Resources Manager of an expanding technology company consisting of 170
employees that develops and distributes small electronic devices. Over the past two (2) years, a
research group formed, designed, and built prototypes of small remote surveillance cameras used
for security. Recently, your company won a contract to build and provide these remote
surveillance cameras to various government agencies. The contract will begin with your
company supplying these cameras to agencies within your home state. If all orders are fulfilled
sufficiently, the contract will be expanded to supplying agencies outside of your home state.
For the immediate future, you will need to secure a larger facility and hire more staff to sustain
the first part of the contract. This staff will consist of ten (10) Assembly Technicians, one (1)
Certified Quality Control Engineer, one (1) Contract Administrator, and one (1) Office Support
Paraprofessional. Meanwhile, there is a contract clause requiring that you provide a staffing plan
in order to ensure future product deliveries and sustain the possible future growth.

Review Ch. 1 in our textbook to locate the section titled, Staffing Models. The chapter
outline preceding the first page of the chapter will help you to locate this section. Review
each of these models to determine which two you want to apply to your staffing plan. Take
notes about how the specifics of each model should be applied to the scenario you
selected. Next, research each staffing model by conducting Internet searches. Apply these
principles to your scenario. Remember that your focus in organizing your solution for this
part is the model that provides you with the greatest efficiency, productivity, and is best for
your business scenario to accommodate future growth.

This question relates to Chapter 2 of our text, which we will be covering next week. Don’t
just discuss random legal issues; instead, focus on EEO and diversity to explain how your
staffing model will allow you to avoid problems in these areas. Again, start with Ch. 2 of
our text, but then conduct Internet searches for specific topics identified in our text. Your
research will be used to justify your comments. Remember, comments without quality
references are simply statements of opinion, and in business, this will not suffice. You need
to demonstrate that your plan represents accepted staffing principles and your use of quality
references is the way this will be accomplished.
Requirements 3 & 4 for Assignment 1:
3. Specify three (3) tasks that you need to perform to identify, analyze, and develop job
requirements and task statements that you will include in formalized job descriptions.
This requirement focuses on how you will develop accurate job descriptions. This requirement is
not about tasks or duties workers will perform, but about the tasks you will undertake in HR to
ensure you develop accurate job descriptions. How will you ensure your job descriptions are
accurate and up-to-date.
Next, predict the frequency with which you would need to review and adjust these job
descriptions as your company progresses. Provide a rationale for your response.
In the second part of this requirement, what general guidance will you include on revising
existing job descriptions? How often will they be revised? Are there certain actions which will
trigger a revisions or review? Ex. turnover or promotion, etc.
Review Ch 3, focusing on the Human Resource Planning section, and Ch. 4, focusing on the Job
Requirements Job Analysis section. Consider how these principles should be applied to your
specific scenario. Remember, this requirement is not focused on duties of a job but on the types
of tasks you must perform to accurately identify the requirements of open positions. In other
words, you are discussing at least three tasks you must perform in HR to identify the
qualifications most needed for your staffing needs.

Identify at least three methods you will adopt to help reduce turnover and discuss the expected
effect of these methods on retention. Do you expect any labor shortages of applicants with
needed skills, etc.?
Next, describe the primary manner in which the described succession-planning methods would
be beneficial to your company. Justify your response.
In the second part of this requirement, briefly discuss succession planning and how you will use
this planning process to ensure current employees are prepared and developed to fill vacancies of
key positions when vacancies occur.

To use the Template, open the document and save it to your computer in MS
Word using the following file name: Assign1 James Doe (obviously, substitute your own
name for James Doe).

Use your notes on your Worksheet you obtained from your research to develop
your solution to each of the four requirements, then type your solutions directly into the
downloaded Template. You should not try to recreate the Template. The purpose of this
Template is to allow you to see a properly formatted SWS paper and to free you to
concentrate on the content, rather than spending an excessive amount of time on
formatting.

Next, insert the current date and your name in the appropriate location on the
Title Page. Do not change the header information or the heading used throughout the
paper.

In SWS, the entire document is written in size 12 font and I want it to be
double-spaced. The template is already formatted for this but be careful in using any type
of automatic formatting as this may change your tabs, margins, or spacing between
lines. The Spacing between lines is the same as that between paragraphs – all doublespaced; all margins are already set at 1”.
6.
On the first page of the body of your paper, start with an introductory
paragraph, indented 0.5", a normal tab setting. This should already be set on the
Template, so all you have to do is to click on the first line and verify it is indented.
7.
Prepare an introductory paragraph to introduce the reader to what will
follow. This should be limited to one or two paragraphs to introduce the reader to your
paper and the organization you have chosen to analyze. Briefly describe what the reader
should expect as they proceed through your paper.

The main topic of each question has already been included and formatted in
SWS as a heading since these are required to be included in your paper for clarity. These
are written in bold font to identify them as headings. These do not need to be
altered and these reflect the major requirements you will be answering.

To enter your solution for each requirement, simply click on the line
immediately below the heading. Review the instructions for each question included on
the template and develop a draft solution. The body of your paper is written in normal
font. The first word of each new paragraph is indented one-half inch (.5") from the left
and the entire document is double-spaced (this setting is in the “Paragraph” section of the
tool bar

Remember to analyze each question in light of the principles of staffing we have
been studying thus far and use our text.
11.
Do not use your return key at the end of a section or it will add additional
spacing (blank lines) between the end of a paragraph and the next heading.
