Sports, films, and music are all integral parts of today’s popular culture that are influential
in a continuum of ways. This is because most popular cultures have audiences who pay close
attention to and follow the lead of people they consider popular under these categories. As a result,
many of the words and images that define the American social life stem from trends in popular
culture then trickle down to fans or audiences with the help of mass media (Hamilton & Shepherd,
2016). This leads to the complicated relationship between popular culture and politics. Most of the
opinions, images, and general content of America’s popular culture are a reflection of daily
occurrences and the reality concerning the lives of Americans. Therefore, people in the political
sphere use such platforms directly or indirectly to pursue their political ambitions. The same
platforms also have a history of destroying the political careers of a few individuals (Hamilton &
Shepherd, 2016). In other words, as the American political realm continues to polarize, players,
politicians, online commentators, and new pundits among other sports people have either directly
or indirectly gone political in their line of duty.
The film and music industry is known to be very vocal in matters politics. However, the
sports domain has also recently stepped up in voicing their political ideologies and concerns
(McLeod, 2016). Many are aware of the infiltration of politics into the sports sector of the presentday United States. The findings of various studies show the direct link between certain political
