Readings and Podcast Reflections
After listening to the Podcast and going through the assigned readings severally, I have
noticed many new things that I did not notice before listening to the podcast. Paying huge
attention to the images used in the assigned readings, I did notice the themes of police brutality,
racism, and the killing of blacks by the police. By the use of a black image of a girl wearing
tattered clothes and some parts of the body invisible, Thomas manages to show the ill meted on
the blacks. The image at the top of the book “The hate You Give” by Thomas is the image of a
16-year-old girl who grapples with police brutality, racism, and who witnessed her black friend
being murdered by the police. Her face looks so much in pain and agony. This image sheds light
on the atrocities meted on the blacks by the police as they fight for their rights.
By looking closely and keenly to the imagery in the “Yummy” by Neri, I notice the
horrifying death of an energetic and mischievous boy. The stark, arresting white and black
drawings in the “Yummy” by Neri depict the good and bad sides of the Yummy. The whit...
