TECHNOLOGY IN THE CIVIL WAR
Like it is in any war, there is often the competition for making sure that either sides
comes up with better and more effective ways of defeating the opponent. This often leads to new
inventions of doing different things so as to increase the efficiency with which they are able to
perform different functions. The civil war was no different as it leads to different inventions that
were aimed at making either side to be able to win the war. These innovations lasted long after
the war and their effects could be seen in the development of modern technology for the civilian
use. Among the most evident included the following.
Development of New Weapons
Among the things that saw great development were the weapons that were being used in
the battle fields. This meant that the armies could be able to attack and defend their selves using
more effective weapons and this was important to both sides survival. The first of this was the
long range guns and bullets. This was a key invention as the new Minie bullet could travel faster
and hit a person who is 900 feet away. This was something that was important in increasing the
amount of accuracy that the soldiers were able to hit opponents with and hence made it possible
to increase the casualties for the opponents.
Second was the Gatling gun. This is a machine gun that was developed before the war in
an effort to give the armies a weapon that could have rapid firing capability (Crozier, 2010)...
