Cost analysis plays an integral role in managerial decision-making in any given
organization. when deciding on which costs to include on firm financials, the management
evaluates the alternatives relating to relevant costs and irrelevant costs that affect future cash
flows (Osamor, 2012). The relevant cost has a direct effect on future cash flows while irrelevant
cash flows do not affect future cash flows. Using Almarai company as an example of relevant
cost and irrelevant cost we look at the company investment decisions as well as other costs
incurred in the recent financial year. Almarai announcement to invest in the food production
plant in the coming years represents a relevant cost that will affect future cash flows. The
investment will see the company spend $173 million in construction of the new plant, which will
reflect on its cashflow. Irrelevant cost includes the cost incurred in the distribution of the
company’s product in the country (Osamor, 2012). The company incurs sucks cost relating to
insurance, fuel and drivers’ salaries costs which are not factors when choosing a viable
distribution channel.
