Total quality management (TQM) is very important in the healthcare field. TQM
has three principles that are customer focus, continuous improvement, and teamwork
(Liebeler, 2007). These principles are important for the better healthcare delivery,
patients’ safety and quality care. TQM principles are applied in the healthcare field
because there is intense competition, advancements in the medical technologies,
informed or proactive customers, and the expectations for high-quality healthcare
services at the reasonable costs. This paper will discuss three articles focusing on one
TQM concept in each article, the relationship among three principles of total quality
management and whether the principle in one example might apply to other examples.
Total quality principles: Customer focus
The article discussed the TQM principle of customer focus in depth. An
important concern of healthcare management is to manage the relationship between
customers and healthcare providers effectively to create trust, mutual understanding,
and informed decision-making. This will result in more customers’ satisfaction and
