2016 State Union Address Speech
Summary of Speech
This speech was given by the president of the United State of America, Barrack Obama.
This was his eighth and last speech at a joint session of the Congress of the United States. The
speech was presided over by the vice president of the States and the House Speaker of the United
States. The president started his speech by welcoming the vice president, congress members and
the fellow Americans. The president told the people that this was his eight speech and it was
going to take shorter time than usual, but of course he was not serious about this. He realizes that
people have a generally low expectation for meaningful legislature due to elections. He also
thanked Paul Ryan, the House Speaker for assisting in making tax cuts permanent for families
that are working and passing the budget too. He addressed matters concerning drug abuse and
criminal justice reforms and hoped that there would be progress in those areas in future (The
New York Times).
Additionally, the president gave his proposal for the following year, as per the tradition.
