1. MATH111

According to Wikipedia, that great internet source of both information and misinformation, "In nature, approximations of parabolas and paraboloids are found in many diverse situations."

Begin by clicking Start a New Conversation. Select ONE example of a parabola in real life. Make your choice (Bouncing ball) the subject of your post, and then tell us in your own words about your parabolic find (at least 250 words).

Do not just make this up off the top of your head - this is not a creative writing class. The St Louis Arch, for example, is NOT a parabola - it is an inverted catenary. Please cite a source confirming that your example is, indeed, parabolic and not some other more exotic curve.

Instructions: Your initial post should be at least 250 words.

6. Forum: Monetary Policy and the International Financial System
What is the purpose of monetary policy? What is meant by economic wellbeing? Why
would excess fluctuations in the foreign exchange value of the dollar make planning for
marketing and financial transactions more difficult?
The purpose of monetary policy is to ensure the economy maintains a low and consistent
inflation rate. The long-term goal of having a monetary policy is to have a stable and favorable,
long-term GDP growth rate. This way, the country can achieve sustained growth rates and create
rooms for employment opportunities and therefore achieve a better, improved quality of life. The
monetary policy includes the process of developing and implementing strategic actions by a
monetary authority, such as a central bank, to control the flow and quantity of money in the
economy. Fiscal policies also control channels used to supply money in a given economy. It
involves the management of money supplies and rates of interest for the sake of achieving
economic goals and objectives.
Economic wellbeing, as the name suggests, is characterized by a stable and vibrant
economy with low rates of inflation, low unemployment, diverse commercial activities, and a
high GDP. The books and literature define economic wellbeing as a state of a country's economy
in which there exists both present and future financial security (Medcalfe, 2018). When a country
achieves economic wellbeing, people, businesses, and investors have confidence in the economy.
They can make economic decisions without feeling insecure, unsatisfied, or unfulfilled with their
employment of financial states.
Excessive fluctuations in the foreign exchange value of the dollar can have serious
adverse outcomes when doing business internationally. Changes mean that there is a weak

currency, which can fuel exportation and make importation more expensive, therefore increasing
the cost of raw materials from foreign suppliers. Fluctuation in foreign exchange could lead to
depreciation and make the importation difficult, which could lead to reduced international
transactions.
