Persuasive essay on telecommuting
Telecommuting is a critical element in an organization or business. It enhances effective
communication in a company. Again, employees can effectively address customers, thus
providing high-quality services to their customers. Moreover, telecommuting is an excellent
source of teamwork and accords employees chances to collaborate from their locations. This tool
has numerous benefits to employees, employers, or the organization. All organizations that
embrace this tool have much succeeded. The daily commute to a particular place of work is
enhanced through telecommunication. Many employees work from home, and some commute
occasionally. These employees use mobile telecommunication, for they can work from their
homes, coffee shops, or any other place of their choice. Telework replaces all telecom at any
work level, thus curbing distance restrictions of telecommuting. Both employees and employers
need to understand both the pros and cons of telecommuting. This paper aims at persuading
employers to allow their employees to telecommute one day per week.
Telecommuting increases productivity (Raffaele & Connell, 2016). According to
business studies and most researchers, employees or else teleworkers are more productive while
at home since there are no interruptions such as meetings. Instead, teleworker pays more
attention to the activities at hand. However, productivity at home comes from the employee's
values like self-discipline, honesty, loyalty, and sometimes the employee's ability. When
employees work from home, they are likely to work as per a schedule that reflects their lifestyle.
In the end, these employees can perform better than how it would have been while working full
time in an office.
Moreover, telecommuting improves the morale of employees, thus improving their
quality of work. Quality work diverges from the confidence of a teleworker, which results from a

positive attitude towards one’s responsibilities. Allowing employees to work from home makes
them feel energized to have their duties done on time. Again, most employees complain that they
hate their work environment due to unfriendly colleagues. Remote-based programs keep
employees away from aloof colleagues. Therefore, the change in the work environment will
motivate workers to perform assigned tasks.
Telecommuting allows for the improvement of the retention of employees in a business.
If a company applies telecommuting practices, this business can end up retaining the best or
talented employees (He & Hu, 2015). Such employees are of great benefit to the organization.
However, these businesses move to more favorable hours or relocate for other reasons. If the
company changes its operation hours or transfers, the best employees remain. In other cases, due
to the change of life cycle, employees can decide to relocate so that they may spend more time
with their families. Such employees cannot manage commuting daily. In such cases, the
employee will be allowed to telecommute since the business cannot stand the loss of a healthy
and talented employee. This program will enable companies to retain all their skilled employees.
Retaining such employees enhances business productivity and reduced staff turnover, which
would result in the poor performance of the entire business.
When employees work from home once per week, the company or business reduces
office requirements. For one, the company will not pay or purchase any supplies for the
employees. In most companies, the employer buys employees supplies like snacks. As per the
research, a company like IBM has saved over$100 million per year due to the remote-based
program for its employees (He & Hu, 2015). This example is clear evidence of how employers or
organizations can significantly benefit from such programs. No one wishes to order bulk supplies

for an office. Therefore, this remote-based program will cut off a lot of expenditures, thus saving
money.
Again, telecommuting enhances schedule flexibility. Telecommuters offer quality
services if they can fix their time for work. For one, they can work during their most active
periods and around other demands in life. Some workers concentrate entirely during morning
hours while others are more productive during different times of the day. Telecommuters can fix
their activities to fit in their clocks. Employees work best at a convenient time. Again, this
schedule allows them to balance both work-related issues and life demands. However,
telecommuting is not babysitting. It accords teleworkers an opportunity to fix their plans and
decide the form of care need in their families.
Telecommuting increases the time available for work. Telecommuters are always free
from stress linked to commuting to work. A lot of time is spent in this process. The increased
time does not refer to the time that the telecommuter would have spent while going to work. This
mentioned time refers to the time that teleworker schedules to do his or her work.the teleworker
des not face nay commuting stress or consequences. Therefore, telecommuting acts as a tool for
managing time and getting more time to work. Additionally, workers save productive time by
reducing sick leaves at times, and they use the scheduled time to meet their family needs.
Telecommuters do not take leaves to perform personal activities like taking care of children.
Furthermore, telecommuting enhances work-life balance. Employees can, at times, live
meaningful lives by balancing both work and personal life (Loubier, 2017). Through
telecommuting, teleworkers have a whole day to work and, at the same time, be near their
family. This act motivates them to work tirelessly to impress their employers. In cases where
employees do not work at home once a week, they tend to quit jobs and seek more favorable

jobs. When employees leave employment, the productivity of the company and its PR are
affected. Employees can take part in family activities, like going to shop or taking care of
families. If the business employs this program, there will be minimal issues of seeking off-days
or leaves. It affects both employer and employee positively.
Teleworkers ensure program continuity in business. This valuable strategy curbs or
minimizes external impacts on projects or programs of activity. As per most researchers,
telecommuters use remote-based programs correctly by ensuring that all projects proceed while
at home (Allen et al., 2015). Moreover, telecommuting minimizes other consequences of
occurrences that can affect the performance of a telecommuter. For instance, during snow days,
teleworkers can comfortably work from their homes, thus preventing exposure to extremely
inclement weather, which may risk their health and affect their productivity. The weather might
interrupt meeting deadlines. Gain, it affects negative occurrences such as lateness to work due to
traffic or bad weather. Therefore, businesses with remote based programs are less affected by
weather or any other possible element that can affect projects or other programs.
In conclusion, telecommuting improves the productivity of a business since it lowers both
employer and employee stress levels. However, employers need to Analyse the effectiveness of
these remote-based programs in their companies. Although telecommuting has several
drawbacks, employees and employers ought to understand that it is a valuable management
strategy. Employees need to be motivated, and this tool is an excellent source of motivation.
Telework allows flexibility of both time and place. Also, it boosts productivity, saves time, and
saves money in a business. Most employers ought to embrace this tool for better performance in
their companies.
