Extraction of S- and N-Compounds from the Mixture of Hydrocarbons by Ionic Liquids as
Selective Solvents
Key findings of previous authors
This article is centered on the extraction of S-and N Compounds from a mixture of
Hydrocarbons by Ionic liquids where it seeks to determine the applicability of six ionic liquids
that can independently be used to isolate sulfur and nitrogen. Besides, the article intends to find
the proper ionic liquids that can be used as a part of desulfurization and denitrification of model
gas and diesel fuels. The main conclusions were derived after different liquids were synthesized.
The findings were; the difference between ionic fluids and model solutions determine the rate of
mass exchange and dissolvability of the components. The conclusion derived was that (
C6mmPy)Tf2N) is the best specific solvent for the denitrification and desulfurization of model
solution.
Methodology
To determine the best and efficient solvent the following methods were utilized in the synthesis
of ionic liquids. First, an outline of chemicals was set for preparing of model arrangements
speaking to the gas and the diesel. They included Hexane, heptanes toluene, and pyridine. The
liquid-liquid extraction procedure was also carried out in the laboratory. Then regeneration of
ionic liquids was the last methodology.
Parameters used for analysis
The parameters used for the analysis were the physical properties of the model solutions which
looked at the distribution coefficient selectivity and mutual solubility of solvents and
regeneration. Determination of extraction time was also applied. The other parameter was the
effect of hydrodynamic conditions to find out if this condition can affect the transfer of mass
during extraction. Also, experiments were carried out to screen ionic liquids and finally
regeneration of ionic liquids.
Result analysis
In this article different graphs were used to do the analysis of model solution and its results. They
included the following. Figure 1 that was examining the influence of extraction time on the
extraction efficiency. In the figure, Thiophene, pyridine toluene, and Dibenzothiophene were
used and it was found out that the mass of transfer was very high. In the representation given, the
compounds were utilized to establish the impact o...
