Female Aedes mosquitoes is the main vector of ZIKV and is communicable through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion and mother-to-baby transmission during pregnancy. Majority of the individuals who are infected with the virus are asymptomatic making it difficult to identify the infection. The infection can only be detected by complicated diagnostic test. In a country like Brazil, access to health care especially for the pregnant women is limited, making it impossible to detect the virus promptly that could have prevented more fetuses/ infants micro cephalic cases. People should restrict from travelling to ZIKV susceptible places. Use repellents, wear long clothing, and remove stagnant water. Research on ZIKV is still ongoing.
