What is the importance of tenses in reading and writing skills? with examples?

They are important because they convey the aspect of time.  For example, if I tell you that "I went to the store", you automatically know that I'm telling you something that occurred in the past.  Conversely, if I tell you "I will go to the store" you know that I'm telling you about something that will happen in the future.
