Facts
This criminal case was heard in June 2016, where two pharmacists from Alabama were
sentenced to 1 year and ten months, respectively, for engaging in drug adulteration (Rocha,
Amaral, & Oliveira, 2016). David Allen had worked at Meds IV as a pharmacist while William
Rogers had served as Meds IV president.
Both of them pleaded guilty of violating the FDCA (Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic)
act. A fine of $5,000 was also imposed on them by Judge Hopkins. Meds IV had involved
themselves in providing intravenous nutrition to innocent patients without taking into
consideration the essential precautions to be followed while preparing the product. This resulted
in serious infections in some patients.
