of IBM
In this section, we will provide definitions of
corporate communication.



Apparently, corporate communication is a
function of management that is responsible
for dissemination of information to the
central departments of that organization such
as operations, finance, and marketing
departments. This department is also
responsible for drafting messages that serve
different purposes in the firm. The staff
ensures execution of corporate strategy as
developed by the management.



Corporate communications involves “activities
that are aimed at managing and directing
internal and external communications that
create the stakeholders’ point of view of the
firm on which its reputation depends”
(Argenti, 2007). In a nutshell, corporate
communications constitute messages of the
company as communicated to its audiences
such as the media, employees, business
partners, and the general public.

IBM’s corporate communications has
identified that it could use today’s technology
to create reliable systems that could monitor
up-to-the-minute use of water.
So, IBM, in partnership with The Nature
Conservancy are building web-based tools
that that would enable and ensure
management River basins.



In relation to the challenge of shortage of
food, IBM used its World Community Grid to
compute genetic date, which in turn was used
to develop stronger strains of rice that
provide larger yields that were also nutritious.



IBM’s corporate communication created the
Reinventing Education program to solve the
challenge of access to education



The corporate communications of IBM
identified that a smart energy grid could save
energy, money and the planet at large, thus
solving the energy volatility challenge. IBM
recognized that linking smart meters with
homes that have instrumented power plants
and power lines. In light of these
developments, IBM is leading seven top
world’s automated water projects.





Undertaking discussions on social initiatives
that are not only substantive but also
program-based.
Involving credible partners in its social
communications lest they be accused of
conflicting interests.



In summary, the corporate communications
department of IBM has faced challenges
which they have identified opportunities to
address. Even with the possibilities to meet
those challenges, I suggest that the
department should have partners in their
