Impact of Technology on Labor/Management relations
We live in the world where things seem to be changing at an alarming rate. There is no
doubt that technological advancement is being witnessed all over the world. It is true that our
daily activities are affected by changes in technology in one way or the other. This is so because
technology is currently being applied in almost all life set ups. Change in technology is a
universal thing bearing in mind that every organization needs to employ the technology in order
to survive in the competitive world market. Firms consider it wise learning and applying the new
ways of doing things for it to remain competitive. As a result, the use of technology in an
organization has impacted labor relations in various ways. This paper will state and critically
discuss how technology has affected labor relations in organizations.
It is quite sure that technology has enhanced good relations among people in an
organization in different ways. With new technology, the internet is used as a communication
tool in organizations where communication among employees has been made easy (Fuller &
Armistead, 2013). Improved technology may translate to increased use of internet to interact
with other people all over the world. In this case, the junior staff members can freely discuss
issues with the management. Employees can always give their opinions concerning some matters
by use of technology. Easy consultations have been enhanced because employees can always
communicate to the top management. Again, issues are easily clarified without delay because
using the internet one can respond immediately. Contemporary technology allows use or video
conferencing among other applications which enhance communication within the organization.
Being able to communicate with the management at any time, employees will develop a positive
attitude towards the management body hence good relationship.
Use of technology in the work place has improved human resource management in
various ways. Unlike in the past, human resource managers can carry out their duties with ease.
For instance, managers are able to track employee performance and productivity just by use of
technology. This has made it easy for human resource managers because they no longer inspect
employees physically as they carry out their assigned tasks. The boss will only sit at his or her
office and be able to monitor what is being done by the junior staff. This increases employee
productive because they are aware that someone is monitoring their performance at distance
(Ramey, 2013). Increased productivity brings about a good relationship between the
management and the other employees because managers are always happy when his or her team
performs a recommendable job.
