Human Rights and Religion
Introduction
Human rights are basic necessities in the livelihood of people since they ensure that
everyone acts in accordance with the required behaviors. They entail the norms and code of
conduct stipulated by cultural, legal and religious backgrounds. The human rights ensure that
each and every member of society is treated fairly despite the disparities in sex, nationality,
language and race. Religion is one of the sources of human rights. The different religions contain
differing opinions and stipulations when it comes to according people their inherent rights.
However, some of the requirements apply to more than one religion. Judaism and Buddhism are
some of the religious denominations that have emphasized the need for fair treatment to all.
Judaism is a monotheistic religion whereby the Jews believe in the existence of one powerful
God who dictates the ways of life to be followed by people. Buddhism is a religion mostly
applied in India and it entails the teachings of Buddha who is a spiritual teacher. The two can be
utilized as background to human rights.
Summary of Jewish Beliefs on Human Rights
Judaism, the religion followed by the Jews, derives their theoretical frameworks of
human rights from the idea that a Powerful God created the entire universe hence He owns it.
Therefore, all the behaviors and actions portrayed by people should follow His dictates for them
