HUMAN POPULATION GROWTH 1. [5 points] Using the simplified image above that shows human population over time and information from Populations and Communities, what is your prediction about how human population will change in the future? Explain your reasoning. 2. [6 points] Explain one negative impact of the Green Revolution in detail. (Why is it happening? How will this impact us in the future?) 3. [6 points] Environmental impact of humans depends on population, affluence, and technology (I=PAT). Explain how population, affluence, and technology each affect our environmental impact (explain each individually). 4. [6 points] Using the population profile above, identify 2 features in the population profile and explain why they might be there. HUMAN POPULATION & DEVELOPMENT 5. [5 points] The image above was shown in class. Explain why it took the U.S. much longer to go through the demographic transition than other nations. 6. [6 points] Two ways to lower total fertility rate in a nation are to provide access to modern contraception (birth control) or to encourage economic growth. What is a way both of these goals could be achieved? (Come up with a plan to address these – it can be a plan with separate parts for each goal) FOSSIL FUELS 7. [8 points] a)What are the main sources used to generate electricity in the U.S. today? b)Based on this, describe which vehicles creates more pollution to use gasoline car or electric car. Break this into 3 categories: which creates pollution while driving, which creates pollution to charge/refuel, and overall which creates more pollution? (Consider what drives each car, how each recharges/refuels, where that source comes from, laws of thermodynamics, etc. There is no right or wrong answer for overall which creates more pollution, but you need to explain/provide support for your answer) 8. [8 points] Fossil fuels are created through complex processes after the burial of organic material (such as marine organisms and swamps) and take millions of years to form. Based on our rate of using fossil fuels, describe what is happening to our reserves (how much is left) of fossil fuels on Earth. What does this mean for technology and cities that rely on fossil fuels? What is one change we can make to address this?

Human Population Growth
1.
As seen in the graph, the human population has been rising. However, the difference has
been the rate of population growth. From 1800 to 1950 there has been a slow but steady rise and
then a sharp rise from 2000. Human population will continue to have a sharp increase, thus
making 2050 have a population that is almost 10 billion. The reason for this prediction is because
the graph has a steep trajectory, and this means in 2050, and the population will be around 10
billion.
2.
The green revolution was a research technology that increased agricultural production
worldwide. One negative impact of this revolution is global warming. Green revolution
intensified agricultural practices...
