Primary Stages of Masters and Johnson Model of Human Sexual Response
The great William Masters and Virginia Johnson both detected and observed men and
women engaging in sexual activities within a laboratory setting. Thus, they recorded their
findings along with their research and outlined four distinct stages of physiological arousal. The
four classifications are excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution. Therefore, these four
divisions seemed to take place in a linear fashion, hence this meant each stage promptly took
place one after the other. Masters and Johnson’s work could greatly be considered a mastery in
finding the true understanding and exploration of the roles of the women female body.
