Rites of passage
Rites of passage are ceremonies that indicate crucial transitional periods in an
individual’s or a group of people’s lives, such as birth, puberty, marriage, having children and
death. The traditional version of rites of passage, especially of Native Americans such as Plains
Indians states that, for an individual to transition from boyhood to adulthood, the youth should be
separated from his community (Phillip, 2017). The youth would spend the period of separation in
the wilderness fasting, consuming herbs, and will see a vision that would become their guardian
