I was once all set to make ice cream and realized that I only had one egg, but the recipe called for two.  Consequently, I had to scale-down all of the ingredients.  For example, rather than using one gallon of milk, I had to use convert to quarts (4 quarts in a gallon...thus I used 2 quarts).  Similarly, I had to convert 1 tablespoon into teaspoons (3 teaspoons in 1 tablespoon...thus I had to use 1.5 teaspoons).
