Question 1
The Christian perspective of ethics and spirituality, in comparison to postmodern realism,
can be explained in different ways. Spirituality was a part of healthcare some centuries ago, but
due to advancements in technology, it has currently been taken out. Spiritual care or
compassionate care as it is referred, involves treatment of patients' every need. This means that
patients are treated physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Spiritual care includes
practicing compassion, listening to people's pains, dreams, hopes, and fears, obtaining their
religious history, including appropriate spiritual practices and including spiritual leaders in the
members of interdisciplinary care teams (Igboin, 2015). This is a critical care aspect for
terminally ill patients and those facing losses and suffering. Including spirituality in care, plans
help patients lead longer lives. This is why spiritual care is essential. It can impact people's
health positively. The rise of scientism and postmodernism are the reasons spiritualism was
removed from healthcare plans.
Postmodern relativism does not involve any form of ethical reasoning, which means it
cannot grasp the full view or picture of human life. Postmodernism is the rejection of absolute
knowledge as well as the role of rationality and reasoning in science. Humans are taught from a
young age to believe in what they see and the data that supports these claims. This is perhaps
why living in the modern era can make it complicated to adopt spirituality in care practices.
However, nurses are trained to accept the cultural aspects of all patients, including religious
rituals. Postmodern relativism does not involve a moral analysis and, therefore, does not explain
all aspects of human life ("Spirituality and medical practice: a Christian perspective | Indian
Journal of Medical Ethics," n.d.).

Question 2
Scientism is different from science, although the two are connected. Science is defined as
a practice that aims to understand the universe' nature using the clearly-delineated and wellestablished method. In simple terms, science expands people's understanding instead of limiting
it. On the other side, scientism can be described as a speculative view of the world about the
universe's ultimate meaning and reality. Despite the concrete fact that the world has billions of
different species, scientism concentrates on human beliefs and behavior (Noble, 2017). Instead
of working within the constructed methodologies and boundaries created by researchers, it
generalizes the whole academic fields' professionalism and dismisses them as mediocre. Once a
person accepts science as the only human knowledge source, he or she has accepted scientism
that can never be falsified or verified by science. Therefore, scientism by itself is unscientific.
There are other arguments against scientism that critiques have presented. The other main
case is called the fundamental argument. It argues that science can never stand alone. The
propositions of science cannot be believed without first trusting in other things, like the reality of
an external world, the validity of reason and logic, as well as the dependability of our memory,
senses, and informants (Noble, 2017). If people believed that these things exist, they already
believe in a world beyond the realms of science. The other argument against scientism is that it
can only answer logical questions and not moral questions about human behavior and society,
therefore, it is not the only source of knowledge.
