Skin disorders and Exposure to sunlight
The sun produces electromagnetic radiations including, infrared, visible, and ultraviolet
rays. These are filtered through the atmosphere before reaching the animal skin during the day.
Animal skin has receptors that receive the light stimulant, which is helpful in the synthesis of
vitamin D. The synthesis requires a certain light intensity amount. Too much sunlight has a
severe effect on the successful operation of the skin and its entire structures. Some other
infections and disorders are associated with the extreme sunlight energy strayed directly to the
surface. This document discusses the relationship between sunlight, cancer, and other diseases of
the skin.
Skin cancer, the most scientifically proven cause of skin cancer, is the prolonged
sunlight. The skin cancer is categorized into three types, namely; squamous cell carcinoma, basal
cell carcinoma, and melanoma (the most severe and less frequent). Skin cancer kills more people
globally than other forms of cancer, especially polar continents like Americans. Though it can be
prevented through skincare and avoidance of excessive Exposure to direct sunlight intensity,
Direct sunlight with high energy than the required body burns the skin cells (Morrissey et al.
2019). For consistent and efficient operation, the skin is forced to develop other cells to replace
the damaged cells; this rapid production results in the uncontrollable growth of the cells that
changes to the tumor and finally develop into cancer. Over time exposure to sunlight makes the
skin less elastic and thickens or thinned like tissue paper. This makes the skin age early, making
it easy to be infected due to reduced immunity. In the United States, there is common skin
cancer; about 80% of the cancer patients have tested positive for skin cancer. Strong UV gets
into the skin and causes rapid mutation of the genetic makeup of the body (DNA). This change in
the DNA stimulates early growth and divide of the cells, and this leads...
