Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where the level of blood sugar in the body of an individual is too
high. Blood sugar, which is also known as blood glucose, is considered to be the primary source
of energy to the body. The substance is obtained from the food consumed. For the glucose
derived from the food consumed to be taken in the cells of the body, insulin has to be involved.
In this case, insulin, which is a hormone produced by the pancreas, controls the level of blood
sugar from rising or decreasing beyond normal. In some cases, the level of insulin in the blood
may be too little, leading to the failure of the absorption of the glucose into the cells, thus
increasing the level of blood sugar in the blood. The increased level of glucose in the blood may
be dangerous since it makes the body to be prone to various health problems such as the
development of diabetes. Once an individual gets the disease, it cannot be cured, though it can be
managed through various practices. In some cases, an individual may be considered to have
bordering diabetes or prediabetes. This is an indication that the person has not yet developed the
condition fully. Such individuals can be treated and cured if the state is recognized early.
Types of diabetes
Type-1 Diabetes
There are several forms of diabetes, which include type-1, type-2, and gestation diabetes
(Eberhardt et al., 2018). Type-1 diabetes refers to the diabetic condition in which the body of an
individual has no insulin. The disease develops when the pancreatic cells of an individual are
attacked and destroyed by the immune system to the extent that they cannot produce the
hormone anymore. This type of diabetes can be found among both children and adults since it
contracts anyone regardless of his or her age. Individuals who have this type of diabetes are
required to take insulin daily to enable them to be alive.
